Our Mission

Our mission is to help our clients nurture happy and well-adjusted pets through smart play, focused exercise, and behavioral coaching.

We support forever home adoptions. All services are designed to help shelter pets adapt to their new homes and to create happy, healthy routines for all pets. Our goal is to make sure that no pet is returned to a shelter due to anxious or destructive behaviors.

In the spring of 2018 we expanded our mission to include the Half Moon Cat Rescue to care for and stabilize a feral cat colony on the eastern shore. We’re taking a break from fostering/adoptions but continue to TNR. See more on Instagram and Facebook @halfmooncatrescue.

Down Dog Pets and Half Moon Cat Rescue is run by Anne Johns.

Anne Johns

Behavioral Coach / Pet Care Specialist / Problem Solver

Anne founded Down Dog Pets in 2013 with the goal of providing more than basic pet care. She works with clients to create lasting, healthy behaviors and routines for their pets.

Prior to starting Down Dog Pets, Anne spent 20 years in the fitness industry as a fitness and nutrition expert. She approaches behavioral coaching for animals with a similar emphasis on the link between exercise and well-being. Anne has worked with clients and their dogs to successfully address challenging behaviors such as separation anxiety, aggression towards other dogs, and over-activity. She also specializes in working with under- or poorly-socialized cats and dogs to get them ready for adoption and to help them settle into their new homes.

Anne lives in East New Market MD with her cats, Barley, Alex and Max and quite a few rescues and neighborhood cats.
